A new approach for risk analysis of slope disaster in a large area using GIS platform is presented in this paper. The object area is divided into small grids with GIS. The frequency analysis and consequence analysis are carried out in each grid. An effective procedure of calculating the probability of slope instability in frequency analysis and a new method for estimating the economical loss resulted from potential slope disaster risk in consequence analysis are proposed. The new method has been applied to a practical analysis of slope risk in Dazaifu district in Fukuoka prefecture, and its usefulness and effectiveness have been approved.
