Increased pressure on automakers to reduce costs while improving on fuel economy, durability, safety, and noise/vibration levels is expected to drive the use of plastics to new levels. Plastics offer automotive OEMs the styling flexibility needed to produce high profile niche vehicles, parts-consolidation capabilities for cost savings, reduced weight for improved fuel efficiency, and corrosion resistance for longer service life. This report examines new materials, processes, and applications of plastics in the automotive industry.
