摘要
In this paper I want to emphasise how the developments of theoretical mechanics have influenced the field of computation to obtain solutions of realistic problems and how, on occasion, the computational methods in turn have influenced our approach to the theory. The paper will survey the achievements of the 20th century and will hazard a guess on the directions the research will take in the 21st century.
