Reference ranges for laboratory parameters in rabbits Goal of this study was to establish laboratory reference values for laboratory parameters in mixed breed rabbits using a blood sampling methode suitable for private practice. To collect the data, blood was taken from the V. saphena lateralis of 155 clinically healthy rabbits at the age of 6 weeks to 9.5 years. Evaluated parameters included: haematocrit (0.36-0.55 l/l), haemoglobin concentration (7.03-10.63 mmol/l), erythrocyte count (5.36-8.13 X 10(12)/l), erythrocyte indices (MCHC: 18.4-20.1 mmol/l, MCH: 1.14-1.37 fmol/l, MCV 59.3-69.6 fl), leukocyte count (3.02-11.91 X 10(9)/l), differential blood cell count (monocytes: 0-756 X 10(6)/l [0-12%], lymphocytes: 1,576-7,870 X 10(6)/l [32-81%], banded neutrophils: 0 X 10(6)/l [0%], segmented neutrophils: 820-5,031 X 10(6)/l [15-61%], eosinophilic granulocytes: 0-82 X 10(6)/l [0-1%], basophilic granulocytes: 0-518 x 10(6)/l [0-7%]), and platelets (193-725 X 10(9)/l), the enzyme activities of alanine amino transferase (0-61 IU/l), alkaline phosphatase (0-397 IU/l), aspartat amino transferase (0-28 IU/l), glutamat dehydrogenase (0-19 IU/l), gamma-glutamyl transferase (0-13 IU/l), lactate dehydrogenase (0-571 IU/l), creatine kinase (0-958 IU/l), alpha-amylase (0-459 IU/l), lipase (0-1,587 IU/l), and cholinesterase (0-3,564 IU/l), the concentration of the substrates glucose (5.83-14.83 mmol/l), fructosamine (314-527 mumol/l), total protein (48.9-73.9 g/l) including electrophoretic separation (albumin: 35.6-56.8 g/l [66.7-86.1 %], alpha(1)-globulin: 0.1-3.6 g/l [0.1-5.7%], alpha(2)-globulin: 1.7-4.5 g/l [2.9-7.0%], beta-globulin: 4.1-10.7 g/l [6.9-16.8%], gamma-globulin: 0.5-8.7 g/l [0.9-12.1 %]), cholesterol (0.31-2.66 mmol/l), triglycerides (0.45-3.35 mmol/l), serum bile acids (0.0-77.6 mumol/l), bilirubin (0.29-2.53 mumol/l), urea (2.05-8.42 mmol/l), and creatinin (34-166 mumol/l), as well as the electrolytes calcium (3.1-3.9 mmol/l), phosphorus (0.81-3.15 mmol/l), magnesium (0.90-1.66 mmol/l), sodium (139-149 mmol/l), potassium (3.7-6.3 mmol/l), chloride (93-109 mmol/l), and iron (20-59 mumol/l). Age (less than or equal to 4 month and > 4 month) and sex (male/female) dependence were taken into consideration.
