Synthesis and spectroscopic studies of some mixed toluene-3,4-dithiolatobismuth(Iii) derivatives with O,O′-dialkyldithiophosphates

Some toluene-3,4-dithiolatobismuth(III) dialkyldithiophosphate derivatives of the type SC6H3(CH3)SBiS2P(OR)(2) [where R = Et, n-Pr, i-Pr, n-Bu and i-Bu] have been synthesised by the reactions of toluene-3,4-dithiolatobismuth(III) chloride with sodium salts of dialkyldithiophosphates in equimolar ratios in refluxing anhydrous acetone. These newly synthesised dark gray derivatives are soluble in common organic solvents like acetone, benzene, chloroform and dichloromethane. All these derivatives have been characterized by elemental analysis (C, H, S and Bi) melting points as well as IR and NMR (H-1, C-13 and P-31) spectral Studies. On the basis of above spectral data, the tentative structures for these compounds have been proposed.
