This article describes the indications for the application of ring fixators to treat complex traumatic injuries of the foot and ankle. The literature that outlines different techniques for application is reviewed and the available clinical results are highlighted. The author emphasizes the complexities and the potential benefits of the use of ring fixators in the treatment of foot and ankle fractures.
