Residual mechanical properties of needle-punched carbon/carbon composites after oxidation

Needle-punched carbon/carbon composite is suitable for the high temperature environment as a relatively low cost material. Its oxidation behavior changes the volume contents of component structures and interface bonding, so the mechanical properties are influenced. Mechanical parameters of component structures are calculated based on the Mori-Tanaka model, the residual mechanical properties of NP C/Cs are predicted with the proposed solid-beam mixed elements, it shows that the predicted residual coefficients of modulus and strength are 28.29% and 34.54% when the oxidation ratio is 30% at 850 degrees C. The simulated and tested results agree with each other well.
