Design Reuse can result in cost and time reductions for the design of a new product, and improve its performance. This paper focuses on the development of a computer-based system for the reuse of detailed component designs. The approach is explained through a Case Study involving the design of components for NiftyLift pie. A framework is created for the storage and retrieval of design information. Details of components and assemblies are stored within a database. The database passes component information to Pro/ENGINEER, enabling procedures such as the generation of solid models and their analysis to aid in the overall design process.
