摘要
At present, ELT in many Chinese colleges is far from being satisfactory and unable to suit the needs of the political and economic development of the country. There are some common problems: teaching ideology and the concept are obsolete, emphasizing too much on grammar and language form; English teaching purpose is contrary to the essence of language as a communicative tool; language learning breaks away from the authentic language environment, the content of the material being often neglected and so on. Therefore, in the college English education, how to improve teaching efficiency, promoting the improvement of students' comprehensive English proficiency and how to better for cultivating applied and compound talents has become our urgent need to address the problem. Content-based instruction model (CBI) provides a new direction for college English education reform. It advocates that language learning should be involved in content in subjects, which can not only meet students' needs for learning a variety of scientific and cultural knowledge, improving their own quality, but also improve students' comprehensive abilities of using English. This paper mainly discusses the advantages, problems and strategies of CBI mode in the application to college English teaching.
