Chemisorption and catalytic lowering of the sintering temperature of ceramics

摘要
The lowering of the sintering temperature of oxide ceramics by treating the powder with carbon tetrachloride is explained. It is shown that chemisorption processes on the surface of the powder used for shaping ceramic articles can affect both the density of the pressed preform by decreasing the friction between the powder particles and the kinetics of the sintering process by forming additional vacancies upon dissolution of the chemisorbed substances in the volume of the particles. It is proposed that the concept of catalysis is applicable to the description of the effect of additives and impurities on the sintering kinetics.
