The splitting behavior of γ′ particles in Ni-based alloys

摘要
The splitting behaviour of gamma' particles (ordered L1(2) phase, Ni3Al) has been investigated in a Ni-Al alloy aged at 1273 K and 1413 K. It was found that the particles were initially cubic and then they split through different paths to octets (eight sub-cubes). The observed splitting behaviour indicated that the doublet (two parallel plate-like particles) was not stable and could split in order to form a more stable state, i.e. the octet.
