FROM THE USES OF URBAN SPACE TO THE INTELLECTUAL HISTORY OF POLITICAL ECONOMY. A TRIBUTE TO JEAN-CLAUDE PERROT

After setting out the background to the transformations of the historical discipline during the 1970s and 1980s, this article traces Jean-Claude Perrot's intellectual itinerary from his economic and social history work on the formation of the city of Caen in the 18th Century to his studies and proposals for intellectual history. It highlights the genealogical link between these two moments, the affinity of the analytical procedures they involved and the meeting of these attempts in France with similar renewals in Germany.
