A summary is given of experiments on large amplitude Alfven waves in the Large Plasma Device at UCLA. The Alfven waves are generated using either a resonant cavity (the Alfven wave maser) or loop antenna and have magnetic field amplitude delta B/B similar to 1%. These sources have been used to study a strong nonlinear interaction between Alfven waves where two co-propagating waves beat together to drive an off-resonant Alfven wave. In addition, with the launch of single large-amplitude Alfven waves there is evidence for strong electron heating. The heating creates a highly-structured temperature profile which is unstable to drift-Alfven waves.
