Imaging within highly scattering media using time-resolved backscattering of femtosecond pulses

摘要
Small objects embedded in highly scattering media are traced down and depicted by gated detection of backscattered light. Using a mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser as an illuminating and gating light source, a depth resolution of about 10 mu m can be obtained. In media with scattering properties similar to those of human skin, embedded metallic objects are imaged up to depths of 1.2 mm and, over the same range of depth, the inhomogeneous scattering parameters of porcine skin are recordable.
