Carbon dioxide capture from multiple flue gas sources

Fluor recently completed a study for BP to determine the cost of separating CO2 from multiple flue gas sources at one of their petrochemical complexes, using Fluor's proprietary Econamine FG(SM) amine capture technology. The recovery plant capacity is 3820 tonnes/day, representing most of the CO2 emissions from the complex. This paper discusses the results of the study and the cost penalties associated with capturing CO2 from a large number of flue gas sources, spread over a wide area of the complex. The paper also compares the cost of the capture facility as studied, versus facilities designed with either a single flue gas source or only a few selected sources. This study can provide guidance to refinery and petrochemical plant operators who need to collect flue gas from several sources to achieve a capture plant capacity adequate to support CO2 for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) or for storage.
