摘要
Human dignity is the constitutive principle of the democratic State and also a foundation for human rights. After the Second World War, civilizations started to reflect and seek ways regarding worthy conditions to human beings. In this context, human rights got privileged space, becoming a foundational paradigm for education. The present text addresses religious education on the horizon of human rights. Drawing form specialized literature, grounded on the Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil and in the educational legislation principles, the authors point to some paramount elements proposing that human rights ought to be the paradigm for the religious education subject, being committed to the respect regarding cultural and religious diversity, with the plurality of ideas and pedagogical conceptions, with the fight against racism, misogyny, homophobia, and intolerance. The authors comprehend that religious education as a school subject may assume solid commitment with children and teenagers' rights, providing responsible, critical and citizen formation to the students. The authors conclude as it follows: the religious education that assumes human rights as a paradigm is essential to the construction of a society that is fair, free, solitary, and able to respect diversity.
