A theoretical analysis of the sorption of water molecules on carbon adsorbents

Concentration characteristics for the adsorption of water molecules in slitlike pores of carbon adsorbents were studied within the framework of the lattice gas model. An approach to analyzing the shape of water clusters formed around foreign adsorption sites based on a model of ice Ih was proposed. It was found that the size and shape of the cluster increase nonmonotonically with an increasing number of molecules in it. The role of non-spherical interactions between the water molecules in the cluster was discussed. The proposed model makes it possible to interpret qualitatively the character of changes in the concentration dependence of the self-diffusion coefficient for water molecules in pores of various widths with increasing degree of pore filling.
