摘要
Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the world. Risk factors include diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome. Material and method: Observational study on a population of 138.350 workers, from 23 Spanish companies belonging to various productive sectors. The presence of metabolic syndrome is determined based on the NCEP-ATP III and IDF criteria and the risk of developing DM 2 with the Findrisk, QDscore and Carlos III methods. Results: The risk of developing Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 is higher in men, increasing with age, no physical activity and unhealthy diet. 10.02% of women and 16.68% of men had a high risk of developing type 2 DM with Findrisk method. 4.7% of women and 9.8% of men had metabolic syndrome with IDF criteria. Conclusions: A percentage of workers considered to be apparently healthy present risk of developing type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome not known.yy
