Effects of delamination on the transient fatigue crack growth behaviour following overloads in 8090-T8 Al-Li alloys

摘要
The transient growth rate response following a single tensile overload was examined using 8090-T8 AI-LI alloys. The overloads were applied either at 295 K or at 77 K under constant Delta K conditions to obtain two different crack tip conditions. A unique retardation behaviour was observed for the alloy overloaded at 77 K. This was attributed to the local laminar splitting due to the overload, i.e., delamination, ahead of the fatigue crack tip.
