The multifilamentary (Bi,Pb)-2223 tapes with Ag-alloy sheath were fabricated by powder-in-tube method. Critical current density (J(c)) of the tape reached 3 x 10(4) A/cm(2) at 77 K, self-field, and the tensile strain enhanced to about two times of the pure Ag-sheathed multifilamentary tape. The reduction of plumbate phase in the precursor powders is considered beneficial for preparing Ag-alloy sheathed (Bi,Pb)-2223 tapes. The influence of roller diameter in properties of the multifilamentary tapes has been studied. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
