摘要
Using multiple overlapped but orthogonal sub carriers for simultaneous data transmission, it is possible to improve upon spectral efficiency of wireless system. This technique known as Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing or OFDM has been used in many wire line as well as wireless networks. Another technology that is very popular today is MIMO or Multiple Input Multiple Output. It can increase capacity of system and/or it is possible to have more reliable transmission using MIMO technology. This technique of using multiple antennas at both ends in communication system can be combined with OFDM to achieve spectral efficiency as well as reliability. MIMO plus OFDM is very well known combination which is used in WLAN, WMAN and 4G cellular standards. It is also considered as an attractive combination for the design and development of next-generation wireless networks, demanding higher data transmission rates. This paper explains the basics of OFDM and MIMO wireless technologies and provides overview of MIMO-OFDM Combination. It also focuses on transceiver design using MIMO OFDM.Finally with discussion on various different areas for further research, the paper is concluded.
