摘要
Political polarization in recent years, with waves of populism on the right and left and the resulting ideological debate, has reached millions of people on social networks such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The growth and wide reach of these social networks has served as a very powerful tool for conservative Catholic groups such as the Heralds of the Gospel, Centro Cultural Monfort, Instituto Plinio Correa de Oliveira and Centro Dom Bosco. These groups have in common the discourse against Liberation Theology, the advance of communism or what they call "gender ideology". They also take religious positions prior to the Second Vatican Council and are fierce critics of Francis' papacy. The aim of this work is to analyze the influence of these groups on Catholic communities in Brazil, focusing on religious, moral and political discourse. This study is based on reading materials on the websites of the aforementioned institu-tions, as well as on their social networks, especially YouTube.
