摘要
The Reliable Supply of Electric Power is crucial for our modern society. Major blackouts result in huge costs in terms of lost industry production, paralyzed communications, and so on. Most large power supply disturbances in the industrialized world during the past few years have been caused by grid failures. As more renewable generation is introduced in the electricity generation mix to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, however, there are concerns that the nondispatchable characteristics of (for example) wind power could degrade the reliability of supply, i.e., that the risk that the available generation capacity is lower than the load would increase. © 2006 IEEE.
