New hybrid photovoltaic system connected to superconducting magnetic energy storage controlled by PID-fuzzy controller

Recently, the rapid advancement technologic of photovoltaic system with storage system based on batteries has taking great consideration. However, their low life time, limited power sizing and low efficiency are the most drawbacks, to overcome these previous disadvantages, new PV system based superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) has been proposed and investigated. In this paper, two independent control strategies have proposed and studied, the first control loop is designed to extract the maximum power point (MPP) of PV system based on backstepping controller, the second controller is established to control the SMES where the storage energy is controlled by PID-fuzzy controller. A comparative study between PID classic controller and PID-fuzzy controller has been carried out, in which many improvements have been demonstrated, where the second controller has provided more superiority in term of accuracy and oscillation of generated power of PV-SMES.
