Determination of the susceptibility to different antimicrobial agents in Neisseria gonorrhoeae: A comparison of two methods

摘要：

Fifty strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated from women and men samples of genital tract received from the laboratory in Hospital of Rio Cuarto and private laboratory. The susceptibility to 5 antimicrobial was obtained by two methods: agar dilation and E-test (PDM epsilometer test). MICs (minimum inhibitory concentrations) obtained by the E-test was slightly lower than the one obtained by the classic method. A significant relationship (P < 0.001) between both methods was observed. The data obtained in the present study suggest that the E-test is an accurate alternative method on dilution agar and is a more appropriate technique for MIC determination, on the MICs of various antimicrobial agents for N. gonorrhoeae.
