Terahertz magnetic and electric Mie resonances of an all-dielectric one-dimensional grating

High-resolution resonant phenomena in an all-dielectric one-dimensional (1D) grating are theoretically and experimentally demonstrated at terahertz frequencies. In contrast to surface plasmon resonances in the 1D metallic grating, a series of high-qualify Mie resonances were excited in the all-dielectric structure, and displayed strong frequency-selection and polarization-sensitivity behaviors. In addition, the dielectric 1D grating reveals less absorption loss, which would considerably enhance the reflectivity. The coupling effects of the high-permittivity arrayed silicon pillar, which exhibit magnetic and electric Mie resonances are calculated by use of finite element method and the theoretical simulations are in good agreement with the corresponding experimental results.
