Technical issues in multimodality medical image registration

Two one-day workshops were held in 1997 that brought together a group of 38 experts from nine countries to address several aspects of the issues surrounding multimodality medical image registration. The first workshop produced an agenda that defined the significant problems and assigned them to subgroups for study. ?Ae second reviewed the results, limited the scope of the problem, and proposed an action plan that focused initially on the development of standard data sets. This paper discusses the nature of the problem (why it's interesting; why ifs difficult) and the consensus plan that is emerging.
