摘要
This study identifies features of organizational socialization Sor new faculty members in communication departments across the United States. Results of the investigation indicate that the amount of time spent in orientation activities is the best predictor of satisfaction upon arrival in the work force. It is also apparent, however, that satisfaction with organizational entry is not as high as satisfaction with the job interview. It is recommended that individuals responsible for socializing new faculty take additional steps to make newcomers feel welcome and comfortable in their new environment. Through activities such as developing a departmental mentoring program offering opportunities for informal interaction with colleagues, and providing adequate information on departmental policies and procedures, novice faculty members believe they will more easily adapt to their new work environment.
