Crystal chemistry of meneghinite homologues and related sulfosalts

Eight selected meneghinite homologues (Cu-Pb-Bi-sulfosalts) and related compounds (mainly Cu-Pb-Sb/As sulfosalts) were investigated on modular and polyhedral level. For the cations with active lone-electron pairs crystal chemical trends could be established and correlated to the polyhedral settings by means of the polyhedral parameters: polyhedral volume, volume of circumscribed sphere, eccentricity, and volume distortion. For the Sb, Bi, and Pb coordinations, pairs of opposing bonds plot into an xy-diagram of element specific bond-length hyperbolae for which characteristic values were calculated and compared to those obtained from sartorite homologues. These results are compared to an earlier and simpler diagram where the mean value of three shortest Me-S distances is plotted against the mean value of the two next shortest ones (ARMBRUSTER & HUMMEL 1987).
