Tecnica e ingenieria en Espana: An encyclopaedia for the history of engineers

Despite being an influential professional group that has enjoyed great prestige in Spain, engineers have not usually been treated as relevant actors in political history of the nineteenth and twentieth century. However, the trend seems to be changing.. Several works have been published recently that explore the connections between technicians, technology and politics. The encyclopaedical collection, Tecnica e ingenieria en Espana was based on a solid tradition of the history of technology and on the decades of dialogue between the history of engineering and economic history. Thanks to the innovative spirit of the director Manuel Silva, it created new spaces of dialogue with art history, lexicography or literary studies. This article analyses the results of this interdisciplinary dialogue and points to future research paths.
