System Dynamics based development of strategic decision support systems

Research in decision support systems (DSS) has enjoyed much attention during the last decades. Interestingly, little work has been devoted to the potential of system dynamics in designing and implementing Decision Support Systems (DSS). Recent studies have demonstrated that simulation based analyses of feedback loops can significantly improve individuals' and groups' learning as well as decision making skills. This paper discusses system dynamics from a DSS design perspective. The proposed approach has been applied to build a decision support system to understand the dynamics of GSM demand in Germany.
