The Run 2 CDF silicon detector plays an important role in heavy flavor tagging and enables a significant increase in acceptance. I will describe our experience operating the detector during Run 2. I will cover several failure modes which have emerged and discuss the performance improvements from a novel layer mounted on the beampipe. Since the beginning of Run 2, the Tevatron at Fermilab has delivered almost 0.5 fb(-1) integrated luminosity to CDF. The CDF silicon has now been exposed to enough radiation that aging can be measured. I will present studies of charge collection and noise versus applied bias voltage at several different integrated luminosities. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
