Safety of road tunnels depends to many factors, e.g. tunnel design elements, safety and technological equipment, etc. Road tunnel operation is also very important part of overall safety. In the Centre of Transport Research at University of Zilina is a device which allows managing technological equipment of virtual two-tube highway tunnel. This device is called Tunnel Traffic & Operation Simulator. Changes of the traffic-operation states and equipment conditions are reflecting in the simulated traffic, as well as simulations of various emergency events in traffic initiate the changes in tunnel on detecting and measuring devices. It is thus possible to simulate emergency states that can be affected by various faults of technology as well as by climatic conditions. The results are in irreplaceable experiences of Slovak road tunnel operators. Possibilities to changing traffic-operation states, visualizations of operator technological display screens, technological devices labeling are acquisition to increase operational safety of road tunnels.
