摘要
A disease rarely diagnosed in veterinary practice is the sudden acquired retinal degeneration syndrome (SARDS), which leads to acute blindness within a few days to weeks. A unique feature of this disease is the additional systemic symptoms and changes in blood chemistry as they are similar to those of hyperadrenocorticism and are not observed in other diseases that cause acute blindness. Such symptoms can occur in up to 85% of the affected patients. In the following, the various diagnostic options, the underlying pathomechanisms and the current state of therapeutic options are presented on the basis of a case report.
