EFFECT OF HEAT-TRANSMITTING SPACERS IN A KERNEL ON THE DEFORMATION OF HIGH-TEMPERATURE FUEL ELEMENTS

摘要
A study was conducted to demonstrate the effect of heat-transmitting spacers in a kernel on the deformation of high-temperature fuel elements. It was demonstrated that spacers made it possible to decrease the working temperature substantially, slow mass transfer of the dioxide, and preserve the service life of the central channel, ensuring removal of gaseous fission products. The use of heat-transmitting spacers limited the removal of uranium dioxide while at the same time decreasing the coverage of the gas-removal tube with dioxide condensate, which increased the serviceability of this apparatus in stationary operating regimes. The configuration of the central cavity of the kernel changed when spacers were used in addition to the decrease working temperature, as uranium dioxide condensed predominately on the surface of the central channel of the kernel at the spacer locations.
