Evaluation of Operational Efficiency in Shanxi Regional Tourism Based on DEA Method and Malmquist Index

Developing low-carbon economy and green economy has become the trend of the future, it is an inevitable choice that vigorously develops tourism as well as optimize and upgrade the industrial structure for the future development. What is more, Shanxi tourism income in 2008 reached 73.93 billion Yuan, the growth rate reached as high as 27.1%, tourism industry maintains rapid growth in spite of economic recession, tourism drawing great attention from all cities owing to its wonderful performance, every cities expect to have great development of tourism. For this reason, evaluating the efficiency of tourism development in the areas is necessary. By applying data envelopment analysis (DEA) method and Malmquist index, our study makes evaluations for the operating performance of the tourism industry in areas of Shanxi Province. So we estimate the overall efficiency, technical efficiency, scale efficiency, input redundancy rate and output rate of the tourism industry in areas, this study found the problem in the development of tourism of every cities, thus, we make some recommendations for policy-making departments on the tourism development.
