Isopiestic measurements and assessment of the Al-Pb system

An isopiestic method was used to measure the extent of the miscibility gap of liquid Al-Pb alloys, The enthalpy of mixing of liquid aluminium and lead-rich alloys at 1125 K was measured using a high temperature mixing calorimeter, These values, together with literature data of the phase diagram and of chemical potentials, were used to calculate an optimized set of thermodynamic functions phase, The diagrams calculated from the resulting coefficient set agree very well with the experimental data.
