Zn1.xMnxO thin films with different doping concentration (x=0, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08) were synthesized by sol gel method using the spin coating technique. Zn1.xMnxO thin films are prepared using 2-methoxyethanol solution of zinc acetate dehydrate and manganese acetate tetrahydrate. The effects of the doping concentration on the structural and optical properties were investigated. The AFM images showed many spherical shaped nanoparticles on the surface morphology and surface roughness is increased by Mn doping. Meanwhile, the transmittance spectra are decreased by Mn doping and absorption edge shifted to longer wavelength. The photoluminescence spectra shifted to lower energy gap at low concentrations of Mn. These films achieve tunable band gap characteristics by means of changing the dopant concentration.
