摘要
An integrated approach to rapid product realization using CNC milling techniques is described. A central idea in our approach is the use of a common, feature-based representation from detail design to manufacture. A design interface, process planner and machining system are described in this regard. The described representation simplifies process planning to the extent that it can be performed incrementally to promote design-for-manufacture. Mapping of these features to actual machine movements and cuts is discussed. Manufacture is accomplished through MOSAIC-PM, an open-architecture machine tool controller which provides the backbone for work in sensor integration and process monitoring. An integrated architecture links the components and permits open communication throughout the design to manufacture process.
