摘要
Increase in pollutants in the environment has led to an increase in health hazard and climate change. The amount of pollution being produced is not likely to decrease anytime soon, therefore solutions have to be found in order to help conserve the environment. However, before any solution can be found, information about the existing environment and its conditions should be known. This paper therefore aims to design a low-cost environmental monitoring system that can help in gathering information about the environment using low-cost devices. The device is low powered wireless device capable of measuring the temperature, humidity of the environment among other measurements. The system is based on a central node communicating with 64 other nodes. The node collects information using sensors to transmit back to the central node. The results shows that the device is low powered with relatively good performance and provides good measurements. The system is designed such that future nodes can be added and ability for it to me customised to suit end users.
