Complementary studies in humans and mice have recently demonstrated the differential expression of the beta(2) chain of the interleukin-12 receptor in Th1 and Th2 cells, Here, Lars Rogge and Francesco Sinigaglia review our current understanding of the key role that the regulation of IL-12R beta(2) plays in T helper cell differentiation.
