A survey of some peculiar ignition features of solid propellants is conducted in an attempt to identify possible civil applications of this specialized technological area. The relevance of the associated phenomena of dynamic extinction and static extinction, or pressure deflagration limit, emerges. It is shown that strong enough dynamic disturbances of different nature can permanently quench a solid propellant flame if the final operating pressure is below the deflagration limit (and no radiant energy is provided). This suggests concrete means of dealing with fire accidents in civil applications.
