Effective utilization of waste banana peel extracts for generating activated carbon-based adsorbent for emission reduction

摘要
This study employs an alternative resource to reduce emissions by using agricultural waste as activated carbon (AC). Due to its large surface area and larger pores, AC can absorb harmful tailpipe emissions. AC char is achieved by dehydrating banana peel with the hot air oven and carbonization in the muffle furnace at 350 degrees C with and without N-2 gas of 0.15 NL/min for 1 h, continued with the different normality of activation using con. H2SO4 at 85 degrees C for 1 h. The iodine number test was done for the characterization of activated carbon. The result shows that the 6 N of H2SO4 gave better results than other lower concentrations, resulting in 380 mg/g with a high yield of 39.32%. For the physical-chemical activation method with the same concentration of H2SO4, the results are 580 mg/g with a larger surface area of 568 m(2)/g and a yield of 55.40%.
