A series of 2,2':6',2 ''-terpyridine ligands bearing ortho-carboranyl substituents have been prepared by a variety of routes, and the crystal structure of one such compound determined (monoclinic, P 2(1)/n, a = 12.796(1). b = 9.624(1), c = 19.097(1)Angstrom, beta = 92.687(6)degrees, V = 2349.2(3) Angstrom(3), R(W) = 0.051).
