摘要
Conversion to Islam among Latinas/os in the United States has been gaining increased media and academic attention. This study explores the experiences of a doubly understudied group of converts in the United States: Latinas who convert to Shicism. It looks at their pre-conversion, conversion, and post-conversion experiences to explore what unique aspects of conversion to Shicism are shared among these Latinas. It also looks at how their gender affected their conversion. Special attention is given to the negotiation of multiple minority identities and how they synthesised a Latina-MuslimAmerican identity.
