The Future of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy is an effective treatment for virtually all psychiatric disorders. However, only few patients receive adequate treatment in most countries around the word. One of the few exceptions is UK and its program Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT), which clearly demonstrates the enormous cost-savings of training and disseminating CBT. Another important avenue for the future of CBT is to move toward personalized care, which may only be achieved by departing from the psychiatric classification system and the medical model. Current obstacles for achieving these goals are discussed.
