摘要
Cryptococcus neoformans is an encapsulated yeast causing meningoencephalitis mainly in the case of cellular immune defects. Incidence of the disease is 3.47% and in our experience represents the second major opportunistic infection of the central nervous system after toxoplasmosis. Cryptococcosis was the first AIDS defining illness in 5 cases (41.7%). The mean CD4 cell count was 62/mm(3). CSF was clear in all cases and the yeast was identified in all cases. All patients were first treated with amphotericin and fluconazole was used in the case of side effects or to complete a course of oral medication. Poor prognosis was probably due to monotherapy with amphotericin B and the advanced stage of HIV infection. Improving prognosis needs suitable treatment until immunity is restored by highly active antiretroviral therapy. (c) 2005 Elsevier SAS. Tous droits reserves.
