A new technique, which is on-line temperature monitoring in high-voltage devices, is proposed in this paper. The main principle and the structure of the software and hardware fitted for this device are introduced. The characteristics of the new technique: the signal is transmitted by infrared light; the PTCR inorganic material is first employed as a new temperature sensor. The transducer consists of the PTCR sensor in series with resistance. It has high sensitivity, so there isn't amplifying circuit, and resists disturbance; the transducer has the broader dynamic range and good temperature resolving in (80-110)degreesC range. The results of the experiments have been proved that it can be satisfied with the heat-circle repetition and time-effectiveness stability. The devices can be applied to joint point of the main circuit in the GIS or metal enclosed switchgear.
