摘要
Since the early 1980s, American and comparative research has shown, at the aggregate level, that social protection reduces crime rates. The article goes into the details of this body of work and, based on recent research in microeconomics, shows that the acting mechanism at the individual level probably is the income effect: redistribution allows the poor to avoid engagement with the type of crime that is induced by lack of legitimate labor market opportunities.
