摘要
A miniaturized coplanar waveguide-fed (CPW) ultra-wideband (UWB) printed antenna is designed and optimized with S-11 < 10 dB and bandwidth of 3.1 similar to 10.5 GHz, i.e., 3.4:1 ration bandwidth. The miniaturization is achieved by cutting out a half-elliptical notch in the original half-elliptical metallic patch that acts as the radiator, and the size of metallic patch is reduced to less than 72% of the original size with the reduced area of 203 square millimeters. Simulation results demonstrated that placing metallic surface (or flat metallic object) in the notch region doesn't make negative impact on antenna bandwidth and radiations through the entire bandwidth, and the linear polarization of E-field and the approximately uniform radiation pattern in II-plane arc obtained. This is of a great advantage when this novel UWB antenna is integrated with the printed circuit board (PCB), in which the notch region could be used to place and route more circuits to save the overall size of the PCB layout without affecting the performance of the antenna.
